Heavy Rainbows are showcasing contemporary artwork that highlights social and environmental issues, aiming to raise awareness within our community and beyond.
Inspiring Change Through Art

Mark Cawood, Artist/Illustrator

I'm presently showcasing a selection of themed artwork on the Heavy Rainbows website, focusing on social and environmental issues including animal welfare, and the ongoing issue of global warming with the intention of raising public awareness and I welcome any suggestions and queries by email: mark@heavyrainbows.com

Images can be a powerful form of communication and are capable of leaving a lasting impression on the soul, some have an intoxicating effect and can potentially influence our outlook on life. We remember an image far more vividly than any written word.

I graduated with a BA hons degree in Fine Art, specialising in visual communication, at the University of East London in 2,000. I have since exhibited and sold collections of artwork focusing on contemporary social issues, such as bacterial epidemics within our farming industry, entitled Food For Thought, highlighting how animal welfare is compromised for economic profit. Another series of work exhibited around the UK during the noughties highlighted the catastrophic effects of global climate change.

From 2011-2018, I concentrated on teaching art to adults including students with special needs, incorporating art into the English curriculum to enhance confidence, improve functional skills, and help students gain recognised qualifications.

I am presently working on new projects in conjunction with organisations involved in action against poverty, the pandemic and subsequent mental health crisis. And the ongoing issue concerning global climate-change that is creating erratic weather conditions involving severe typhoons, rising sea levels & submerging land.

Heavy Rainbows are presently creating artwork to raise public awareness, and when relevant raise funds, for worthwhile causes that benefit our community and environment. Producing pieces that not only resonate with audiences but also highlight important social issues, we're contributing to meaningful change while engaging the community. Each piece conveys a narrative that can evoke emotion, inspire action, and encourage viewers to support various initiatives, from environmental conservation to animal welfare and mental health well being. The relationship between art and society fosters a culture of giving and awareness and highlights the power of creativity in making a positive impact on society.
